Want to know what makes my family gorilla crazy? When I cut boxes apart to get a coupon or a upc. They cannot stand compromised packaging. And if it's cereal, it makes everyone that much nuttier.
Now, in the past I've taken the plastic bag out of the box, written the brand name on the bag, and put it on the stockpile shelves only to watch it languish there.
For some reason cereal seems to lose its legitimacy if it's no longer in the colorful box. There has got to be a psychological reason for this.
All that to say that I did cut the coupons off the boxes and off to the store I went. I'm on a hunting and gathering mission to stock up on as much cheap cereal as I can while the getting is good.
I'm so happy that Rice Krispies qualify for this deal. We were plum out, and boy are Rice Krispies pricey.
And as I mentioned yesterday, some of the boxes had coupons attached for free bags of M&Ms. But as you can see above, I had to dig to find the packages with the peelies.
Success! Leave no box unturned. Persistence pays off, my friend.
And look at how well I put the boxes back. If I ever decide to quit blogging, I have a future in shelf stocking. Pretty good if I do say so myself!
I spied another peelie on Fruit Loops for $1 off milk, but Fruit Loops are round and you already know how that goes.
Once I got home, I realized that I have to find a place to store all of this cereal. Stockpiling is awesome and all, but coming up with good places to store this stuff can be challenging. Not everyone can easily store sixty boxes of cereal.
I have to tell you, as I was shuffling the stockpile around to accommodate the cereal, I reflected on how beneficial it is to stockpile not only food products, but everything else too. Have you noticed the price of gas lately?
I know that it's very likely that we will see an even greater increase in prices due to escalating fuel costs. Stocking up when stuff goes on sale and using a coupon to further the savings really makes a difference, especially during times like this.
We can't help but pay what the pump demands, but at least we have some control over what we pay at the grocery stores.
How about you? Are you a serious stockpiler or are you content to get a few boxes of this or that?

I absolutely agree with your suggestion - stock up and save!
Don't forget about the kellogs 10 upc and get a 10 gas card, rice crispies are on the list!
I'm super serious about my stockpile. It drives my boyfriend insane but I can't help but to buy a dozen of everything if it's on sale. And yes, I like to stand in my laundry room and admire my handiwork every once in a while. I live by myself, but I pick up a lot of stuff for my parents and my brother's family when I can. The complaining bf always comes around to fill up on stuff he needs to when he stops by. Gotta love that selective hearing lol.
I finally had to invest in a shelf as my little storage space I did have ws full and then some. I was able to stock up on stuff of all kinds lately and with us trying to save up for a family vacation in a few months it's advantage to not HAVE to buy things that I have them in my stockpile.
For instance we are also taking some of our stockpile with us on vacation in order to not eat out so much.
My cereal shelf was totally empty before I made my haul today and 10 boxes is awesome for me and I was proud of it. Now time to restock my freezer which is awesomely timed as my store ad starts tomorrow and they are doing a march frozen food month giveaway of a coupon book for $600 worth of coupons. You just enter by using your store card so I will be stocking up and going every day this week.
I completely agree with the real psychological appeal of the box when it comes to cereal Melanie! Kids stare mesmerized at the box while eating the cereal before they are completely awake. I'm impressed at how you restocked the shelf after successfully finding all the peelies you needed. Some folks would have left the mess. Not you! Can't make Rice Krispie Treats with Cheerios though can you! Scary what they are predicting for gas prices this summer. Sigh. Those gas prices will show up in the cost of food eventually. Coupons rule! :)
You don't need Rice Krispies to make Rice Krispies treats. My son makes them with Cinnamon Toast Crunch because that's what I brought him from the last cereal deal I did. This time he'll prob make them with Cheerios or Special K. LOL
Here's a link to the Kellogg's offer: http://www2.kelloggs.com/AARP/rewards/
We just stocked up (on a much smaller scale!) on corn flakes, & I will be sending in some UPC's, leaving compromised packaging in my wake!
Definitely a serious stockpiler. At the present time I have 48 boxes of cereal because of these great offers as well. And I too struggle with where to stockpile the stockpile. I try very hard to keep all cereal together, all canned goods, etc. but sometimes once you find a place for things, if you get more of the same thing and there's no room left, you end up with cereal in three places, canned goods in four, etc. But at least it's there, regardless of location. Besides, I know my kids can sniff out anything no matter where I put it. Nancy (PA)
Does having approximately 50 cans of cream soup qualify me as a stockpiler? :)
With gas prices in CA being at $4.30 (and I live in one of the "cheaper gas areas") serious stockpiling is a must. It would take a lot for me to drive somewhere for 1 or 2 items! One of my stores gives .10 off a gallon of gas if you use their rewards card. So I go to that store for their double coupons & their help with my gas bill!
We are located in the south end of the southernmost state on the eastern seaboard - ergo no basement. The high water table won't allow one that doesn't fill with alligators.
This week, Publix has B1G1 Hunts catsup and the same for Kraft salad dressing. I stock up on those, room or not. The alligators can just move over.
I am a stockpiler of what I can use in the time before it expires and I only have one large freezer. We try to eat as healthy as possible so cereal is a sometimes food. So no on the 60 boxes of cereal, but if it works for you, awesome:) Talk to me about toilet paper though and there's no limit! lol!
Girl, please tell me you took the milk peelies!! I know you are abstaining from round cereal, but it is good on milk with any Kellogg's cereal!! What am I saying??? You are the consumate Coupon Goddess, of course, you took the peelies and scored yourself some cheap(er) milk to go with your cheap cereal and free M&M's, right??? ;-)
Ok I had to laugh at the pile of Rice Krispy boxes you took off the shelves. I did the SAME THING yesterday in search of the M&M coupon. Sad part was I found NONE! And the whole time my 3 yr old triplets were sitting in the cart asking me what I was doing crawling into the shelf w/ the cereal and moving all the boxes around! Oh well. We do what we have to for a good deal. Can't complain cause I did find the $1 off milk Q that you did!
Love good cereal deals -- it is so expensive otherwise!!! Thanks for your blog - you always make me laugh.
P.S. S&S made me break up my transactions to get the $6 off for the cereal -- I had to do 4 separate transactions w/ my kids patiently waiting in the cart -- I had no idea they would make me break it up!!!
Due to health reasons I had to put any kind of shopping on hold for a few months...
So, I'm back on the bandwagon, and honestly... I CAN'T BELIVE THE PRICES and what the coupons are offering now!!!!
My stockpile is at it's ultimate lowest since I started couponing just a little over 2 yrs ago. So, I am slowly but surely stocking... I know things are going to get "worse" before they get better... and I'm trying so hard to prepare for the worse!!! With kids it's uber important that they know things are tough, but you can manage and this is how you do it...
That being said, my kids are "super popular" all of a sudden cuz they have name brand drinks and snacks for lunches. I'm like 'WHAT'???
Apparently the "recession" has finally hit middle class America and they are buying generic. "I", with coupons have still managed name brand... apparently my kids are not only supersmart, gorgeous (you so know I was going to say that), and motivated go getters... their also very popular cuz they have name brand!!!
Okay????
