Sunday Coupon Shopping

When I read that there's a deal on Lysol products at Walgreen's this week, I was out the door bright and early. I've been hoping for a deal on the spray because boy is that stuff expensive!  I did indeed get to my local store very early, but the stock was not great. I have a feeling that this deal is going to be very hard to pull of if you wait much longer than a couple of days or so.

This deal requires that you buy five of the bonus packs of spray/wipes, which brought my total to $20.00. I then used five $1/1 Lysol coupons, which brought my total down to $15.00. For hitting the $20.00 mark, I got a $6 Register Reward. $9.00 for ten packages of wipes and spray.

Two cans of the spray alone would've cost me $12.00 if I had bought them at the local grocery store. After Register Rewards, each item came to .90 each.

There were some other good deals at Walgreen's this week, but I was just there for the Lysol. It was my one must have deal of the week.

The other hot deal that everyone in the coupon world is abuzz over is the Coke/Nabisco deal at CVS this week.  We have no soda in the house, so this is a welcome deal. Not that we drink much soda, but it's nice to have it in the house when guests come over.

This deal requires you to purchase $30.00 in assorted Coke/Nabisco/Planters products, which will net you a $10.00 CVS gift card. This deal could take some time to execute because you can only buy four 12 packs at a time. I'll just be visiting CVS often this week.

It helped that I had coupons for Coke Zero and a free coupon for Kettle chips, which is also a participating product in this promotion. I didn't have coupons for the 12 packs, but in the end they will come to about $1.67 each plus deposit. That's a stock up price in these parts.

My goal is to purchase 24 12 packs in total which should last us well through the spring. There are other good deals at CVS this week, but these were my must have items today.

After Walgreen's and CVS, I ran to Stop&Shop for a few coupon and produce deals. Nothing earth shaking, just cheap tuna fish, Odwalla drinks (yum), toothpaste, Goldfish crackers and a few other odds and ends.

Before coupons, $60.42

$31.07 after

Not a huge savings due to the produce, but I got an eight pound bag of oranges, three pounds of apples, and three pounds of broccoli, which drove my out of pocket up. Darn produce.

How about you? What are your must have items for the week? Are you stocking up on Coke and Lysol too?

Just made my CVS run! Husband is trying to save money by bringing soda from home instead of buying a bottle at work. So getting 4 12-packs for $2.50 each was a no-brainer.

Also stocked up on Gogurt at Stop & Shop, which I freeze for my 2yo. 5 for $10, and I have $1 off 2 coupons, not bad.

We are near a Roche Brothers and this week they're having their $5 meat sale. I may check it out but I've found that it's not always very much savings. Still, a meat sale is always good.

I went to Walgreens to do the Aleve Deal. Spend $15 get $5 RR and the Aleve is $3 off. I had those great $5/2 coupons. Bought 4 and paid $4.96 and got back a $5 RR.

Our local grocery store is running Pepsi products on sale this week 4/$10. They're also doubling coupons up to and including $2 through Tuesday. With that Pepsi coupon the other week, I got 4 of the 6 pack bottles for $2 total. I might still run over to CVS, though. We're not brand loyal, so as long as the house is stocked, my husband doesn't care what with.

I may have to put on a brave face and battle Walgreens. That's a great deal for the Lysol, and since we've been down with bronchitis and pneumonia the last week, my house could use a few bottles of Lysol.

I have a strong dislike for Wags, but that Lysol deal is almost sweet enough to get me to go back into the fire! Thanks for pointing it out, I wouldn't have found it without your help, Mel! BTW, the fine print (and I'm kicking myself for reading it) says limit 2 identical Qs of the lysol coupons per transaction. I'm too much of a rule follower to try to slide by now that I've seen it...man, ignorance is bliss, I wish I could plead that in this case, but I will get my two (that's probably all that will be in stock anyway) and throw other items to round out the deal for the RRs.

Tammy- Seriously? I didn't see that. Nor did any other coupon blogger apparently because everyone has that in their scenarios. Good grief. Thanks for pointing it out though.

And upon further examination, it does indeed say that there is a limit of two like products per transaction. Times are changing. P&G coupons are notorious for limits, but very few others have jumped on the bandwagon of limiting. I guess this is a good lesson for me to pay better attention in the future.

I am so glad there was no one at the register to call you out Mel. Will you return the items?

Carrie

Carrie- No, I don't think it's a huge deal. The store will get reimbursed for the coupon since the correct product was sold. If I thought the store would lose money, than yes I would return it. I'll just be more hyper vigilant in the future.

I don't know what i have the energy to do, might depend on if dr pepper is included with coke locally(it was when ra did a deal a few weeks back) I might do quaker bars at sns for the kids. I just got wipes as part of cvs cash card last week so i don't need them enough to deal with trying to do something at wags. I was kinda hoping for a good sale with the huggies coupons that came out this week, but the "sales" aren't impressive and both ra and cvs limit 2 bags for the deals. The kicker is my 2 year old has found out that "Cars" are on the pull ups and won't wear regular diapers.

Did you have problems with Coke Zero coupons? I tried to use them last week at CVS & they wouldn't take them.
Thanks,
Janell

Well if you ask me they need to make the Print large enough to read if they want people to follow the restrictions. I certainly didn't point it out as a way to "call you out" Mel...you are one of the most ethical couponers in the blogosphere! I thought it was odd and had never seen it before! Nothin' but love for you and all you do Mel!

The Coupon Goddess said...

Tammy- Lol, you've commented enough that I know you meant no harm. I did feel badly that I didn't spot that. Honestly, it's my responsibility as a coupon blogger, so I have to own it. Ya know?

The Coupon Goddess said...

Janell- No problems at all. Did they say what the issue was??

Good deals and not bad total savings. Lysol wipes perfect for the cold and flu season. You need that soda to replace the Pepsi you blew out your nose the other day! :)

I sent my hubby to CVS today and they didn't have any coke 12-packs. Not even one!! Can you believe it? First day of the sale and they are out. I might miss out on the deal this week, what a bummer!

Do they get annoyed when you ask to take a picture of their screen? LOL
Good job on the Lysol deal!

I haven't really been keeping up with my coupons lately, but I still read here all the time.

I wanted to share a deal I stumbled on today. I was at BJ's and I was using their coupons from the flier they send out (baby steps to getting back on the wagon, I guess)
I walked down the baking aisle and found Libby's canned pumpkin 29oz cans 3/pk for 0.99! I couldn't believe it- it was just tagged that way on the shelf.

I have no idea if this is just at my local BJ's (Dedham MA- might be worth the trip, Mel) or if it's available in other stores too, but it's too good of a deal not to share.

I bought some soda today at CVS and some say they have an expiration at the end of March and some the middle of May. Does soda really go bad??? Do you think I should try to exchange the March ones for ones with later dates?

The Coupon Goddess said...

Johanna- They were restocking my stores today. I'd check back if I were you!!

TG- LOL! No. They all know me pretty darn well. If anything, I amuse them. :)

Sue- Holy Moly! That is amazing! I'll definitely check my local stores for that. You found a great deal!

Stephanie- You could absolutely do that. Yes, soda has expiration dates. And yes, we've consumed them past the exp. dates, but better safe than sorry. All mine are dated October of this year.

There's also a great deal on pepsi product 12 pks at Stop & Shop this week. They are on sale 3 for $12 and when you purchase $20 worth of participating products you get a $7 off your next order catalina. I also had the $2 off 2 coupons, not sure from which paper. So, 6-12pks for $24 minus 3-$2 coupons, factor in the $7 catalina and you get 6-12pks for $11 plus deposit. The ad which is on the back page of the flyer says wyb $20 after coupons are factored in, so I was crossing my fingers that it would work and it did. I love good deals.

Thanks for the heads up! I am by no means a coupon guru (that's what i need you for!), but you always inspire me to take advantage of some deal (and not just be lazy!). Thanks! Guess it's time to get the house sparkling now!

Hello, this is my first comment, but I enjoy your blog. How will you get to buy 24 12 packs of coke? Our store has a limit of 4 and that means 4 per CVS card, so once I get the deal, I can't return the next day and get more. When they swipe my card, it will deny the deal saying I have met my limit. (Or at least that is what the lady at the store told me.) Is she wrong?

The Coupon Goddess said...

LC- So glad to see you comment! Yes, they are misinformed. You may only buy 4 12 packs per visit, not per card. Your card will track your purchases, and once you hit the $30 mark, the gift card ECB will print on your receipt. I have already purchased enough to earn two gift cards. So yes, it does work.

I went to Walgreens and did the Lysol deal too! Although, I only had two $1.00 coupons towards the Lysol. It was still a great deal! Thanks for the tip!
